XRF Sample Cup Thin-Film Windows
The eligibility of a Thin-Film Window to qualify for retaining diversified sample substances in XRF Sample Cups must meet specific requirements. The material must offer a reasonable degree of chemical attack resistance; provide relatively high analyte-line transmission values especially for the less energetic or longer wavelengths; possess sample retention strength; have uniformity of thickness; and be reasonably free of impurities. Few substances comprehensively possess these properties. The most suitable are typically: Polyester, Prolene®, Polypropylene, Polyimide (Kapton®), Mylar® and EtnomTM Thin-Films.
Typical Properties of Thin-Film Windows
- Thickness uniformity within 1-2% per package; less than 5% between different lots.
- Multiaxial to minimize preferred orientation influences.
- Highest purity available
| Window Material | Typical Uniformity | Typical Impurities, PPM | Density, GM/CC | Structural Formula |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Mylar®, Hostaphan®, Polyester | 1 - 2% per package; less than 5% between different lots | Ca, P, Sb, Fe, Zn | 1.38 | C10H8O4 |
| Prolene®, Polypropylene | Ca, P, Fe, Cu, Zr, Ti, Al | 0.91 | C3H6 | |
| EtnomTM | Si, Ca, P, Zn, Sb | 1.36 | C14H10O4 | |
| Polyimide (Kapton®) | Insignificant influence | 1.42 | C20H10O5N2 |
CONTINUOUS ROLLSThin Film Window Rolls are 3" x 300" (7.6 cm x 91.4 m) contained in serrated edged boxes. Pull out the required length and tear off against the cutting edge. Each roll serves approximately 1200 sample preparations depending upon sample cup dimensions and technique. |
|
PRE-CUT CIRCLESPre-Cut Window Circles are 2.5" (6.4 cm) in diameter and packaged 500 and 1000 circles per box. Each circle is supported on individual carrier papers for ease of handling and to minimize contamination. Minimizes or eliminates trimming excess material with a scissors. |
|
PRE-MOUNTED SPECTROMEMBRANE® WINDOW FRAMESThis is the ultimate in Thin-Film Window attachment. Perforated Windows are pre-mounted on carrier frames in 3" (76.2 mm) or 2.5" (63.5 mm) diameters. Pre-stretched to ensure taut sample planes, no troublesome static electricity and clippings, no direct handling of the window, no contamination possibilities, no waste and no experience necessary. |
Step 1.
Place SpectroMembrane® Over XRF Sample Cup
Step 2.
Press Snap-On Ring of Sleeve over SpectroMembrane® and tear away Carrier Frame
